
More than 1,000 people have been arrested in Thailand for gambling on Euro 2008 football matches, with nearly one million baht (30,000 dollars) in cash seized, police said Tuesday.

A huge flag-waving crowd gave Germany's not quite all-conquering football team a heroes' welcome in central Berlin despite their 1-0 defeat to Spain in the final.

Spain finally banished 44 years of hurt when they defeated Germany 1-0 to lift the European Championships title for the first time since 1964.
